Pharmacy Services

Each of the three health care delivery sites owned and operated by Carolina Family Health Centers supports an in-house dispensing Pharmacy.  An aggressive 340b pricing program keeps patient costs low.  Pillbox services are provided to qualified patients free of charge.

The Medication Assistance Program (MAP) provides low-income patients with affordable medications.  Specially trained Pharmacy staff act as patient advocates while interfacing with pharmaceutical companies’ indigent care programs.

Ryan White clients receiving care through a Carolina Family Health Center site are provided medication through the North Carolina AIDS Drug Assistance Program.  Clients are able to pick up their medication through the dispensing pharmacy of their choice and receive counseling on request.

Free medication delivery is available for those patients for whom transportation is a barrier to receiving services.

Carolina Family Health Centers is part of the National Diabetes Collaborative, tracking and improving patient outcomes.  The Diabetes Management Program is a collaborative between Carolina Family and Campbell University School of Pharmacy.

College faculty, residents and students are on-site at Wilson Community Health Center and Harvest Family Health Center to provide education and teaching for newly diagnosed individuals, and to monitor and support those living with the disease.  The Diabetes Management Program provides a personal and interactive approach to care and was awarded ADA Recognition in 2009.

A similar collaboration exists between Carolina Family and UNC School of Pharmacy.  The PharmD serving Freedom Hill Community Health Center in Edgecombe County provides education, monitoring and therapeutic support to patients living with Diabetes.  As part of the UNC faculty, the PharmD has an opportunity to support student rotations within the community health center environment.

Although both programs are heavily involved in the care of patients with Diabetes, pharmacotherapy services are also provided for patients with other high profile chronic disease states.

Specific medication adherence services are provided to clients enrolled in the Ryan White HIV/AIDS program.  The Ryan White team includes a Pharmacist certified in HIV care. This individual works in concert with the client’s medical provider in maximizing the resources available to maintain an effective and uninterrupted treatment regimen.
